Quality during Design Newsletter

What color economy do you work in?

This weekly newsletter shares resources for product designers (since 2021), brought to you by Dianna Deeney.

I'm preparing for the upcoming RMMR Conference next week.

RMMR = Reliability, Maintenance, and Managing Risk.

I am presenting, which takes a lot of preparation. In addition, I'm looking forward to meeting new people and catching up with some folks that I enjoyed talking with last time.

One of the reasons I like conferences is meeting others who are working on a variety of projects in different industries. At a conference I attended previously, I learned about sustainable economic models which each identified with different colors. I haven't seen very much about this topic lately, but it's something I wanted to review heading into this conference - to see if people's work is related to these models and how. Here is the link to that podcast episode: Engineering in the Color Economy. What color economy do you work in?

If you're attending the RMMR conference in Pittsburgh next week, let me know!

Where do you meet up?

A few weeks ago, I posed a question to you about where you meet up with others, outside of work.

My Q: If you wanted to attend 4 events related to your work this month, what would they be? These events can be tangentially related to work and they can be virtual or in-person.

Some thought 4 events per month would be difficult, and that local chapters of professional groups have not been meeting as frequently, making it even more difficult.

Someone shared a strategy:

I would choose 4 different groups aligned to your annual strategic goals and outcomes for your 1-3 year professional or personal plan. Those would be the “peeps” I’d approach for the right “surround sound”!

Instead of 4 events per month (which we were all finding difficult for our engineering professions), I'll customize a plan that fits my needs. What a great reminder to strategize with goals!

I'd still like to know what groups you're involved with, so please share your recommendations.
